Brahms, especially the Piano Concertos & Symphonies, is boring, boring, booring, boo..oring old fart music.

But this blog has me listening to the 1st Piano Concerto in my underwear, eating a custard tart, and an open box of chocolates on the side. Might just last till the end of the 1st movement.

I shall sue.

PS I think the small stuff is OK.

Nice Brahms post, especially the hemiola comment, and I enjoyed your performance tonight in Denver. Strange program; seems like they should have started with the Mozart and moved forward rather than the other way around.

In any case, nice to find another good music blog to read!

read your blog for the first time today and you made me sigh with longing for all things brahms, fat sausage rolls and of course, the pure impact of those glorious chords! my 2nd crush of a musical piece (don't we always have one? easier than crushes on humanoids for sure) in high school was the b-flat brahms concerto. sigh sigh sigh!

My instrument was my voice, so I found it humorous with all of the talk of playing imagining food in your mouth. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed your blog post, and it is good to know that at least some famous musicians have senses of humor. I am a 30-something coming to see you play tonight in Denver. Perhaps you will not have savory, portly sensations in your mind and mouth during the pieces since you will not be playing Braums. Good luck (as if you need any).
P.S. This might be my first time hearing you play; I will be quite interested.

This is very nice - my approach to Brahms has been very different, wanting to not like him but loving him unthinkingly. I still have a problem with analysis of Brahms - an emotional one - so this is welcome and refreshing.

I always hear the intimacy in Brahms, though, even amidst the fat, there's a voice that's trying to <a href="http://soundtime.wordpress.com/2008/10/07/the-consolations-of-the-classics/" rel="nofollow">make itself heard.</a>

At the risk of repeating myself (I posted a similar message a moment ago but may have posted it in the wrong place) we have to remember - all that rich juicy harmony of Brahms can be explained by the fact that he was a born Hamburger.
