JOSHUA BELL, violin
JEREMY DENK, piano
Child prodigies grow up, and Joshua Bell
most certainly has. I first heard him as a teenager, and today, at age
40, he stands unchallenged as the leading American violinist of his
generation. Not since Itzhak Perlman has any violinist so captured the
public’s attention, whether on the concert stage, on CD, or on the big
screen (with the scores for the films The Red Violin, Ladies in Lavender, The Dreamer, and this year’s Defiance). His recording The Romance of the Violin
was the best-selling classical CD of 2004, and he’s followed this with
a live recording of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto and, most recently,
Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. His joint recitals with the wonderful pianist Jeremy Denk
always mix the great works of the solo repertoire with new music that
has captured his imagination. And if all that weren’t enough, Bell has
also been named one of People Magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People”—what more could any violinist ask?” – WWLJr. | |
